On paper Nepal is a democratic country but in reality we are far from it. Democracy is not only the periodic election but the equal distribution of the political power among all the citizens. In Nepal, the political power is divided among very few people who are leading the parties.
The candidate for various electoral constituency are selected by the party central committee which consists of very few people. They give ticket to only those people who in turn serve them rather than the people they serve. People have no say in who gets the ticket to run in election in their own party. This gives us an illusion of the democrarcy as the people who run in the elections are not the people who have done some significant work for the people or the party rather they are just puppets of the party leaders.
Since Nepal is a Federal Republic the political parties should be also federal meaning that the choice of who runs for the given electoral constituency should be decided by the party members in that constituency.
